Tourism Case Studies

  1. Kleinhardt formulated a Tourism Policy Statement for the National Government of Papua New Guinea. This was accepted by the National Executive Committee and provided a framework for future growth of tourism in the region.
  2. Kleinhardt was involved in the development of a Strategic Corporate Plan for the Tourism Promotion Authority of Papua New Guinea which established a pragmatic strategic plan for the development of tourism infrastructure which would render the best yield given the limited resources available.
  3. Kleinhardt was retained to develop a Strategic Corporate Plan for the world acclaimed Savannah Guides. This ultimately led to the successful development of this organisation which has now been recognised internationally as a leading example of a model of world's best practice.
  4. Kleinhardt led the development of DIVE Queensland's Strategic Plan which bought together a disparate membership to become recognised by the Government as a leading and credible advocate for industry interests.
  5. Kleinhardt conducted investigations and recommendations of tourism industry development opportunities in Brunei. This resulted in the Brunei Tourism Development Division appointing Kleinhardt to identify and source potential developer investors and operators. This resulted in additional business opportunities for Australian operators.
  6. Kleinhardt identified and negotiated the contract for the management of a new 5 star hotel in Brunei by a North Queensland hotel management company.
  7. Kleinhardt developed a strategic plan on behalf of the Port Douglas Daintree Tourism Association which resulted in it reorganisation to a business model with robust linkages to local, regional and state organisations to enable beneficial leverage.
  8. The firm worked with a Hong Kong company on behalf of Chinese developers on a major tourism development planned for southern Hainan Island, China. Kleinhardt undertook the feasibility assessment and business model development for the utilisation of a bay for diving and water sports generally.
  9. The firm formulated tourism implementation strategies for Cape York and Torres Strait, which includes market analysis and assessment, on behalf of Tourism Queensland. This will form the foundation for government policy, infrastructure development and strategic direction for the region.
  10. Kleinhardt prepared the business case for development of the rainforest canopy walkway on the Palmerston Highway, between Innisfail and the Atherton Tablelands, involving the Ma Mu Traditional Owners. This was undertaken in collaboration with GHD. The project has now been backed by the Queensland State Government, with the project due for completion in 2008.
  11. Kleinhardt facilitated development of a strategic and business plan for regional tourism development on behalf of the Ipswich City Council and Ipswich Tourism Association.
  12. The firm facilitated a process leading to the amalgamation of seven marine park associations under AMPTO (Association of Marine Park Tourist Operators) whilst preserving individual identities.
  13. Kleinhardt completed pre-feasibility studies and business development assignments for a number of Queensland Heritage Trails Network Projects during 2000 and 2001. Each included a market analysis and product development strategies in the context of the regional tourism industry and the industry marketing and distribution system. These provided the business models on which the projects were then based.
  14. The firm prepared the National Tourism Benchmarks on behalf of the Australian Tourism Export Council (previously Inbound Tourism Operators Association). This included a review of National legislative context and the development of benchmarks and a code of conduct for Australia's inbound tourism industry.
  15. The Savannah Way is the transcontinental Outback adventure drive route between Cairns and Broome. Kleinhardt is providing project management and consulting services for a major project to take the route to its next stage of development. The project includes market research and development, product development, marketing collateral production, business development, and organisation of a major themed event. The project is being undertaken on behalf of the Savannah Way Committee, which includes the government tourism bodies for Qld, NT and WA and is supported by funds under an Australian Government Australian Tourism Development Program grant.
  16. Scores of business and strategic plans have been developed for individual tourism businesses - large and small, which have tested their various business models and re-directed the firms' strategic thinking and direction.
